Tiera Marie Kelley, who is accused in a hooting that occurred at the Madison Avenue Apartments on Aug. 30, made her first appearance in court Thursday after being arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
Kelley, 36, allegedly shot 28-year-old Mystique S'ade Wadena five times, hitting her in the face, chest, legs and hands, after a dispute over Wadena's parenting of her child.
Wadena was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies with life-threatening injuries, and remained in serious condition for several days. On Thursday, Wadena was listed in fair condition.
In a released arrest affidavit, Kelley reportedly told police that she understood what she did was wrong, but "didn't regret it."
During Kelley's court hearing, Judge Laurie Dean explained that the district attorney had filed charges against Kelley of attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, felony menacing, burglary and child abuse, along with two sentence enhancers.
Dan Jasinski will serve as Kelley's defense attorney, and stated that he would like to preserve Kelley's right to a preliminary hearing, but waive the 35-day timeline in which to have that hearing given the "severity of the charges and the discovery coming my way." Discovery refers to the evidence compiled by investigators.
Kelley is set to reappear in court Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. for a hearing on bond and possible disposition.
